Historical overview
Amboori is a panchayath in Kattakkada Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram district. It was inhabited by the Kanikar tribe since time immemorial; in 1729 the Travancore king sheltered the tribe at Dravyappara and allotted about 36,000 hectares under chembu pattayam, an area that includes Amboori. [1]
From 1930, Saint Thomas Christians from the Kottayam region settled in Pantha/Amboori after a royal invitation; migration continued in 1932 (about 50 families from central Travancore) and 1937–1944 (about 75 families), with malaria and hardship, and by 1944 only a minority remained. [1]
Mid-20th century development included church- and school-related infrastructure: in 1955 Rev. Fr. Joseph Malipparambil was appointed as Vicar; St. George LP School building was completed; a new building for St. Thomas UP School was erected; Amboori obtained a post office on 10-07-1955 and roads were developed.
