Historical overview

It is believed that Omallur was governed by the Koiyikal Thampurakkans, regents of the Pandalam king; around 1740–1750 Marthanda Varma expanded Travancore, bringing Omallur into Travancore. [2]

The Rektha Kanda Swamy Temple in Omalloor dates back to the 8th century AD and is a grand temple that serves as a main pilgrim centre for Sabarimala pilgrims. [1]
