Historical overview
Kadampanad is described in ancient sources as a historic province under Travancore-era rulers. It was governed by Kulashekhara kings and later by Venad rulers, before becoming part of Kayamkulam territory; Marthanda Varma later formed modern Travancore, within which Kadampanad fell. The Pathittupathu, a Sangha-period text, mentions Kadampanad as part of ancient Tamil Nadu. Kadampanad includes the areas of Kadampanad, Kallukuzhi, Thuvayoor and Mannadi, with Mannadi noted as the place where Veluthambi Dalawa died. [1]
During later administrative changes, village uplift unions were formed under the Divan era of Sir C. P. Ramaswamy Iyyer; Kadampanad lands were part of the Kunnathur uplift union. In 1953, when panchayats were formed, Kadampanad panchayath elected its first president, Koyippurath K. Neelakandan Nair. After Kerala's formation, Kadampanad remained in Kollam district under Kunnathur Taluk, and in 1983 Pathanamthitta district was formed, making Kadampanad panchayath part of the new district. [1]
