Historical overview
Maniyur Panchayat has a long educational heritage dating to the late 19th century, with the earliest public schools established before the twentieth century: Mantharathoor UP School (the oldest primary school in the panchayat) and Palayad LP School (established in 1880). [1][2]
Many primary schools were started during the Malabar District Board era, and most were upgraded between 1955 and 1959, enabling broader access to education for minority and Scheduled Caste communities. [1][2]
Maniyur has modern higher education facilities: Government HSS Maniyur began as Maniyur Panchayath HSS on 1 June 1996 and became a higher secondary school after 2004; the College of Engineering Vadakara (CEV) was established in 1999; an IGNOU center with a building project was inaugurated in 2016.
