Documented local history

Before 1754 the Meenachil taluk existed as a princely territory under the Meenachil Karthas (Njavakkat Karthas). The southern bank of the Meenachil River was the domain of Thekkumkoor, whose capital was Changanassery; the northern bank belonged to Vadakkumkoor, with its capital at Kaduthuruthy. The Poonjar royal family also held sway over eastern areas. [1]

In 1754 Marthanda Varma annexed Meenachil taluk to Travancore. [1]
