Documented local history

Karukutty lies on the northern border of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom and shows historical influence from both Travancore and Cochin kingdoms; it has been cited in ancient Portuguese records. [1]

Remnants of an old fort, locally called Kottathendu (കോട്ടത്തെന്റ്), can be seen in Karukutty; the Nedumkotta fort was built jointly by the Kingdom of Cochin and Travancore to resist invasions by Tipu Sultan. [1]
