Historical overview
Thakazhy was a centre of Buddhism in its early days and belonged to the Chempakassery Kingdom, which was annexed to Travancore by Marthanda Varma. [1][2]
The Thakazhy Sree Dharma Sastha Temple’s origin tale recounts that the idol was first installed on Othera hill by Parasurama, later drifted, found by a magician, given to Vilwamangalam Swami, installed by sage Udhayarkkan, and ultimately a King of Chembakassery built the temple. [3]
